I've been messing around with drawing this guy for awhile...it's the best one I've done but it still falls short of where I'd like it to be. I really want to distort it but to do so would suggest he's got more personality than he's shown and I'm suspicious his depth of character ain't too deep. Maybe I should do a "SHAG-like" interpretation -- the guy is so stylized perhaps that's the way to go? In any event, he hasn't a thought worth remembering and nothing he says suggests that will change.

Aside from all that, Oliver turns one tomorrow and I still haven't bought him a gift. I did find a $150 front loading tractor made out of solid wood that's really cool but one wrong move and his bones would be shattered forever. I've been looking for spaceships too, but the best I've found are these rockets (coolrockets.com) that have potential but aren't necessary suitable for a kid his age and I don't think they're quite as cool as the guy thinks they are. Godzilla is another choice but the collector freaks have scooped the good ones and God-only-knows how much lead and other carcinogens are pressed together to make the world's greatest monster. My other choice is a little wooden car made by the Scandinavian company Playsam. However, all the design nudniks around the globe have pilfered them as self-serving desk trophies in honor of their superior aesthetic sensibilities which means the little buggers are sold out. I think I'll go to Giant Robot after work.
